Now I have them by the short hairs.....

My beautiful daughters, inspired by their beautiful cousins Cassie and Kaitlynn, decided that they no longer needed all of their hair once they saw other children who had no hair at all. So last week I took them to Hair Expo in Oceanside.

Now understand that the reasoning behind this, while good intentioned, was not all unselfish. These kids, have more hair at 5 than I have had my entire life. These kids, have hair that was getting so long, it got in the way when they went to the bathroom (use your imagination to figure THAT one out). These kids, have had at least 10 inches of hair cut off already, over the course of the last 2 years - again, more hair than I have ever even had. And, these kids, being only 5, are not yet ready to take care of, or even really appreciate, the beautiful locks they have been blessed with. So it ended up in a pony tail. Every day. And now that they are swimming at camp 3 days a week, those pony tails were a hot tranny mess!

So, after discussing "the cut" to make sure they understood how much hair would be coming off, off we went.

Now Jeanine had recommended Carolyn, the hairdresser who had done such a beautiful job on Kate's hair. She did not have enough time to do both haircuts, however, so Natalie had her hair cut by Katie (not THAT Katie!) and Cecile was shorn by Carolyn. We were early (!) and as Katie was free, Nat was up first. Katie whipped out her trusty ruler (she didn't

actually "whip it out", she had to go to the front desk and dig it up) to make sure the required 10 inches were there. It turned out to be 11 inches. Then, Up In The Chair and Off! With! Her! Hair!!

Cecile's hairdresser was now available. Out came the ruler, the scissors were sharpened then Up In The Chair and Off! With! Her! Hair!!!

So there you have it. I think it was harder for me to see that hair cut off then it was for my beauties. As you can tell from the pics, they are thrilled with their new hairstyles! And I must say, maintenance has gone from an 8 to a 2 on the difficulty scale. AND, some little kids will soon have beautiful hair complements of my gals.

The end result!

Okay. that's it for today. Apologies to those of you (hello Scoot!) who don't like posting about their kids. I for one, am all for posting about them all the time cause they are the best thing I have ever done in my life :)

More later..........

Da da! Da da! Da da!

....aka the Mexican Hat Dance (dang, it's been so long since I blogged I forget how to link to a "Mexican Hat Dance Page"!) aka our girls' first and maybe last dance recital according to BRAT-alie (aka NAT-alie, more on the BRAT part in a later post!). After sweating it out every Monday from 4pm till 5pm in dance class, for which we need to give JP a big SHOUT OUT for getting them dressed, organized, and THERE pretty much on time every week, our gals had their big recital. Now, there were signs posted everywhere throughout the dance studio: "TAPING THE RECITAL IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED" and "DVDS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR $40" and "USE OF CAMERAS DURING THE RECITAL WILL BE STRICTLY PROHIBITED" .......blah blah blah blah. Everyone had their video cameras ready. Except US, of course. You could blame it on JP, for not finding me a new tape for the video camera, as I was doing the makeup for the gals. You could blame it on me, for taping the gals and their dance class friends in "the ready room" before the actual performance and using up all the (LIMITED) tape we had. You could blame it on the dance studio (My choice!!!) for all of the prohibitive signs they posted and then did not enforce.....

NEVERTHELESS, it was an awesome experience and performance. Our girls, despite never once showing us a dance step at home over the course of the year ("It's a surprise!") managed not to embarrass themselves by staying mostly in step. The "$95 wear them one time butana (spanish for "little hooker", I think) costumes" were well worth the money in the whole scheme of things, because they were so proud and excited to be wearing them. Kudos to all who were able to show up for support (you know who you are, and none of you have a blog ((wait, I think Joey was there!)), so you will have to hear about your kudos thru your blogging relatives LOL), the gals surely appreciated it. So anyway, here is a pic of the girls AFTER the fact, with the many bouquets of flowers they received, posing in front of the bay, which is what the HS that the recital was in faces. ALSO!!! If I can figure out 1) How to get my hands on that $40 video, and 2) How to post it - you will be the first to know.

PSHEW, aren't you all glad you have had a respite from my wordiness????? Hope y'all enjoyed it cause the posts are (hopefully) going to come fast and furious for a short time at least till my fingers catch up with our life. Also, don't forget to cast your vote as to who's who in the pic!

till later................

Jill

The Lax-ification of Jill........

Well well well, it's been quite a while since I have been here! I thought at least a brief update of what has been going on in my corner of the world since METSLUMBERFEST was long overdue; I will post separately about the events of importance, sometime in the not too distant future.....

1 - Natalie and Cecile have been verrrrrrrrrrrrrry busy! They had their 1st dance recital (The Mexican Hat Dance); graduated from Sandbox (They are off to kindergarten! Yes they are! Yes they are!); had their end of year Show Cases at Blackheath Pre-K; learned to swim; started Summer Camp; were accepted into the Long Beach West School; and have just literally matured into little people right before my very eyes over the past couple of months. MUCH more on them later.

2 - Yours truly has been getting around some too! I suddenly seem to have what is known as a "social life" as of late. Carnegie Hall, PTA fund raiser thank you dinners, luaus, bbqs, nights out in NYC- after a 20 some odd year absence my social life has resurfaced! More on some of those events later too.

3 - The garden I blogged about months ago when it was little more sprouts in pots has blossomed! We should be supplied with string beans, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, cukes, eggplants, zucchinis, basil, chives, etc etc etc for the rest of the summer. YUMMY!!!

4 - I finally got my fountain! That's right, the fountain that I have spoken about for the 10 years we have live in our house (10 YEARS!!! OMIGOD!!!) has been installed in our backyard. My own little Zen sanctuary. I am going to sit next to it and read my feng shui book, to see if I can figure out how to "Zen" up the rest of the house :)

5 - METS ARE WINNING

6 - Our Block Party was a big success! Other than the fact that I got to spend a total of around 1 hour (in 5-6 minute intervals) out of 10 at my own house with my own guests, everything went off pretty much according to plan. Should I decide to take on the task of planning it again next year, I will certainly enlist some neighbors to take some of the pressure off of me.

7 - Some sad news: Sabre passed away, at home, on Wednesday July 9th. She was 17yrs old, and would have turned 18 this coming September. She was a wonderful companion to Jon-Paul for many years, and to the rest of us in her later years, and she will be missed by all of us as well as by JJ and Wallace.

Ok, that is all I can think of off the top of my head. I will upload some pics this week, maybe some video of the gals too if I can figure out how to do that.
